Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions has approved the five names proposed by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom for parliament approval, to be appointed to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
All five candidates received above the pass mark of 75 percent in the committee evaluation. Current ACC President Hassan Luthfee scored 92 percent, while the commission's current Vice President Muaviz Rasheed received 90 percent. The three fresh nominees, Aminath Minna, Yazumeed Mohamed and Sofwath Mohamed, scored above 85 percent.
Terms of the five ACC members currently in office will expire on 9 September. The remaining three members in office, Mohamed Shafeeu, Abdulla Hilmy and Khadheeja Rasheed, also applied for new terms, but were not nominated.
