The Parliament Committee on National Security has approved Ali Amir as the member to be appointed to the Board of the Local Government Authority (LGA), the governing body for councils, from civil societies.
Out of the 12 people who applied for this post, Amir, with 86.1 percent, was the only person to pass the committee evaluation. The percentage required to pass the committee evaluation is 75.
The areas considered in the evaluation are capability, experience, leadership and vision, integrity, and relevant education.
The members present at the committee meeting on Tuesday voted unanimously in favour of appointing Amir to this post, following which, his name was sent to the parliament for approval.
Even though Amir scored the highest in the evaluation, the names of all the applicants who were interviewed by the committee will be sent to the parliament. The parliament will vote on all of them, in the order of points received in the evaluation.
The committee interviewed ten applicants for this post. They are Hussain Riyaz from Dhi Youth Movement, Abdulla Mohamed from Jamiyyathu Salaf, Ahmed Shihad from Hoarafushi Youth Development Society, Imad Mohamed from Huvadhoo Aid, Ibrahim Imad from Voice of Women, Jaufar Rasheed from Parents Association, Hassan Shakir from Liyuntheringe Gulhun, Mohamed Naseer from Maldives Civil Servant Association, and Mohamed Gubad Abu Bakr from Association of Culture and Social Cooperation.
