Hannan appointed to JSC

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appointed lawyer Abdul Hannan Ahmed to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

The letter of appointment was presented to Hannan by President Yameen at a ceremony held at President’s Office this afternoon.

Prior to the presentation of the letter of appointment, Hannan took the oath of membership of JSC, which was administered by Supreme Court Judge Abdulla Areef.

The decision to appoint Hannan to the JSC was approved by the parliament yesterday. He passed the parliament vote with 44 votes in favour, 18 against and 12 abstentions.

In addition the a member from the public, the JSC consists of the President of the Civil Service Commission, the Attorney General, a member appointed by the President, a member elect among registered lawyers, a parliament member, a lower court judge, a High Court judge, a Supreme Court judge, and the Chief Justice.
