Parliament OKs Hannan as public member to JSC

The Parliament has approved lawyer Abdul Hannan Ahmed to be appointed to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) as the member representing the public.

Hannan passed the parliament vote today with 44 votes in favour, 18 against and 12 abstentions.

The Constitution requires a member of the general public, appointed by the parliament, to sit in the judicial oversight body. In addition to Hannan, President nominated three other applicants; Husham Waheed, Zoona Mohamed, and Ibrahim Ahmed, for parliament approval.

In addition the a member from the public, the JSC consists of the President of the Civil Service Commission, the Attorney General, a member appointed by the President, a member elect among registered lawyers, a parliament member, a lower court judge, a High Court judge, a Supreme Court judge, and the Chief Justice.
