Nazim appointed acting Health Minister

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has temporarily assigned the Ministry of Health to Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim, the current Minister of Defence and National Security, after the parliament rejected the endorsement of Dr Mariyam Shakeela as Minister of Health today.

Ibrahim Muaz Ali, Spokesperson at the President’s Office told Sun Online that the Health Ministry was temporary assigned to a Member of the Cabinet because the ministry provides vital services to the public.

Dr Mariyam Shakeela was rejected by the parliament with 61 votes against, 11 votes in favour and 1 abstention in the vote to grant her consent as the Minister of Health, at the parliament sitting held today.
