Police to dismantle gang structures in Male'

Maldives Police Service has decided to dismantle structures built by gangs in public places in the capital.

Police held discussion on the issue with Male’ City Council, Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure, and Ministry of Youth and Sport today. The offices have agreed to support Police in efforts to identify areas where gang members gather, and to open such areas for public recreation and gatherings.

Police have revealed that gangs currently control certain sports fields in Male’. These areas, according to the police, are exploited for financial gain and used to conduct criminal activities. Police have also noted that some of the stabbings that took place last week in Male' were carried out near such strongholds.
