A seminar on maritime security is currently underway at Coast Guard building in Male’, to identify and improve the search and rescue responses in Maldives.
The seminar, conducted by Transport Authority of Maldives (TAM) in conjunction with the International Maritime Organization, is participated 30 representatives from a number of authorities including TAM, Maldives Police Service Marine Police Department, Maldives Customs Service, Department of Immigration and Emigration, Ministry of Health and a few others.
Speaking to the media after the seminar's opening ceremony today, Commandant of Maldives Coast Guard Colonel Mohamed Ibrahim said the seminar will serve to bring together the relevant authorities to a single platform to discuss issues facing maritime security in the Maldives.
“As a result, the speed and quality of services provided to the public by technical experts in different government institutions, especially in times of disasters, will be increased,” said Colonel Mohamed Ibrahim.
During the three-day seminar, the Coast Guard and government institutions will aim figure out ways to reduce the response time for different areas in disaster management from 48 to 24 hours.
