A 45-year-old man is being treated at Kulhudhuffushi Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for serious injuries received in a road accident around 8:30 a.m. today.
Police said the accident took place at the island’s northern harbour area when a motorcycle, driven by the victim and carrying a passenger, crashed into a pickup truck.
Mohamed Hassan, the person in charge of Kulhuduffushi Hospital, said that the man’s condition is serious.
“We are trying to make arrangements to transport him to Male’. Patient [condition] is very serious,” said Mohamed Hassan.
He said that the victim has suffered brain injuries and that doctors are struggling to stop the bleeding from his ears. Extent of damage to the victim's brain is yet unclear, Mohamed Hassan said.
The 42-year-old man who was riding on the back seat of the motorcycle, and the 19-year-old man who was driving the pickup truck, did not receive injuries.
