Parliament has today accepted the Bill on Amendment to Audit Act, submitted on behalf of the government by Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed.
MPs voted to accept the bill for further consideration, with 55 votes in favor and 2 abstentions, following which the bill was forwarded to the Committee on Economic Affairs for review.
MP Mohamed Waheed said that the current Audit Act, which came into force for before the 2008 Constitution, contradicts with the responsibilities and powers of the Auditor General stipulated in Chapter 7, Article 212 of the Constitution.
Five MPs spoke on the bill today. The first reading for the bill was held on 17 June 2014.
