Police asked to investigate threats from source impersonating Home Minister

Member of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Galolhu-north MP Eva Abdulla has filed a case with the police seeking to investigate threats from an individual impersonating Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer.

Thazmeel Abdul Samad, Media Coordinator at the Ministry of Home Affairs told Sun Online said that Umar Naseer came to know of the threats through messages the MP had posted on Twitter.

He said that the police investigation has so far revealed that the messages are being sent from a network based in another country. Home Minister Umar Naseer has also brought the issue to the attention of cabinet ministers, Thazmeel said.

“We suspect locals are involved. Police are trying to find the people behind it,” said Thazmeel.
