Court allows confiscation of former MBC Editor

Criminal Court has issued a warrant allowing the police to confiscate the mobile phone of Thayyib Shaheem, the former Editor of Maldives Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), over allegations of intimidating a cabinet minister.

Criminal Court released an order on Saturday allowing the police to confiscate and retain Thayyib’s mobile phone and phone number for a period of one month.

It also states that a cabinet minister received threatening text messages on the 24th of this month from a phone number registered to the former MBC Editor.

Thayyib Shaheem served as editor of the public broadcaster for one year form 2011 to 2012.
