No ban on vehicles today, says Government

Government has decided not to implement a decision by Male’ City Council to ban vehicles for three hours from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. today, on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

Abdul Rasheed Nafiz, Chairman of the Transport Authority of Maldives said that the decision to not ban vehicles was made due a number of special events planned in Male’ today.

“We have planned special events in advance. This will require the public to use vehicles,” said Nafiz.

He said that the authority has now informed the city council that the council’s decision will not be implemented, and the police have also been informed to allow vehicles to drive freely on the streets of Male' today.

Male’ City Council announced a decision to ban vehicles on Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday.
