Monday declared Eid al-Fitr

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has declared tomorrow, Monday, 28 July, as Eid al-Fitr for the year 2014.

The announcement followed a meeting held at the ministry this evening regarding the sighting of the moon.

It also followed the official announcement by several Islamic countries, including Saudi Arabia, that the moon has been sighted in those regions.

The delivery of the statement to announce the sighting of the moon will be followed by a gun salute, fired by the Firing Squad of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
