Riza elected as parliament representative to JSC

The parliament has approved Guraidhoo MP Ibrahim Riza as the member representing the parliament in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Riza was approved with 46 votes in favour and 29 against at the parliament sitting today.

Since Riza was approved, Jumhooree Party's nominee for this post, Kendhoo MP Ali Hussain, was not put forward for voting.

In addition to a parliament member elected by the parliament, the JSC consists of the President of the Civil Service Commission, the Attorney General, a member appointed by the President, a lawyer, a member from the public, a lower court judge, a High Court judge, a Supreme Court judge, and the Chief Justice.

Candidates who applied from the public to be appointed to the JSC have been forwarded for review to the Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions.
