Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) staff at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) have resumed their protest against the alleged discrimination in the distribution of year-end bonus, less than two hours after it was concluded this morning.
The protest was concluded at around 11 a.m. after the staff met with Managing Director of MACL Bandhu Ibrahim Saleem, who promised take steps to ensure a more even distribution of the year-end bonus.
A protestor who spoke to Sun Online said, “We were told by the MD that it would be decided today, and we would be informed later in the day. But then a notice was issued, saying that the matter will be discussed and a decision will be made before 31 July.”
Sun Online’s reporter at the scene said that according to protestors, the protest will not be concluded until the management decides and confirms more even distribution of the year-end bonus.
Sun Online has learned through information collected from various sources that some MACL staff members receive MVR 5,000 as year-end bonus, while some others receive nearly MVR 1,000,000.
It has however not been possible to verify this information, as the management of MACL could not be reached on their phones at the time of publication.
