Maldives Police Service has released the Turkish citizen arrested for smuggling parts of a gun on a Turkish oil tanker to the Maldives earlier this month.
The gun components were found in the man’s possession after the crewmen of the oil tanker were searched at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) moments before they were scheduled to depart from the Maldives.
Police media official said that although the components found on the man were parts of a gun, they were not enough to assemble a weapon, and that they did not have enough evidence to press charges. The man was released after due investigation and consultation with the relevant authorities, the police official said.
The suspect was released on 12 July and has departed from the Maldives.
