Thursday 31 July will be confirmed as a public holiday if Monday 28 July is determined as this year’s Eid al-Fitr, President’s Office announced in a directive issued today.
However, President’s Office said that if Eid al-Fitr falls on Tuesday 29 July, then Monday 28 July will be declared as a public holiday.
End of Ramadan will depend on the visual sighting of the crescent moon on the night of 27 July.
The decision was made by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to extend the Eid holidays. Government offices will reopen on Sunday, 3 August.
