Fareed withdraws candidacy from JSC election

Lawyer Mohamed Fareed has withdrawn his candidacy from the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) membership election, scheduled for 13 July 2014.

In a letter addressed to Attorney General Mohamed Anil, Fareed highlighted that the Attorney General, on his own initiative, extended the deadline for applying for this post announced by the Attorney General’s Office, after it had passed.

He said that this extension, in the absence of any court order, obstructs the chances of winning for the candidates who submitted their documents following the initial announcement.
