Detention extended by 15 days for major drug smuggler in Kulhudhuffushi

The Magistrate Court in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi has extended the detention period by 15 days for a man arrested on suspicion of smuggling large quantities of drugs into the island.

The 39-year-old man was arrested on 27 June in Kulhudhuffushi and given 10 days’ detention, which expired today.

Police said that the suspect was arrested during an operation conducted by Kulhudhuffushi Police Station and Police Intelligence, after receiving information to indicate that he had smuggled and sold large quantities of drugs in the island.

The suspect was arrested with a package which arrived in Kulhudhuffushi on a boat from Male’, which contained three packets and a plastic bag containing substances believed to be drugs.

The suspect also tested positive for drugs, said the police.
