Turkish man held for smuggling gun parts

Police have taken a Turkish man into custody for smuggling parts of a gun on a Turkish vessel carrying oil to the Maldives.

Police said that the crew of the oil boat were searched while they were at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) to depart from the Maldives, and the gun components were found on one of them.

The suspect has been taken into custody for questioning regarding his motive for bringing in the components to the Maldives, said the police.

The gun parts have been confiscated by the national defence force.
