Khaleel elected chair, Siyam deputy chair of Economic Affairs Committee

Nilandhoo MP Abdulla Khaleel has been elected as the chairperson, and Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed has been elected as the deputy chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Affairs.

A member of the Economic Affairs Committee told Sun Online that Khaleel and Siyam were elected at a committee meeting held this afternoon, with majority of six votes.

He said that Maamigili MP Gasim Ibrahim and Hithadhoo-North MP Mohamed Aslam were also proposed as chairperson and deputy chairperson respectively, but Gasim received five votes while Aslam received three votes.

The Economic Affairs Committee consists of, in addition to the four aforementioned MPs, Thinadhoo-North MP Saudulla Hilmy, Kinbidhoo MP Abdulla Riyaz, Fuvahmulah-Medhu MP Ali Fazad, Galolhu-North MP Eva Abdulla, Guraidhoo MP Hussain Manik Dhon Manik, Maduvvari MP Mohamed Ameeth, and Gan MP Fayyaz Ismail.
