The deadline for lawyers to apply for the membership of Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has been extended until 2:00 p.m. on Monday, 30 June 2014.
This was announced by the Attorney General’s Office today.
The JSC Act states that the ten members of the JSC must include a lawyer elected from lawyers licensed to practice in the Maldives.
The election of a lawyer as a member of JSC has been scheduled for 13 July 2014.
The procedure on this election compiled by the Attorney General’s Office stated that lawyers and judges who are acting Members of Parliament would not be allowed to vote in this election. The Supreme Court however, has annulled this article which it said contradicted the Constitution.
