Minister of Tourism Ahmed Adheeb has said that the government has decided to take a loan to develop Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).
Speaking at a press conference at President’s Office today, Adheeb said that numerous efforts are ongoing regarding the development of the airport, including efforts to obtain a loan from Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).
He said that this loan will be used to expand the departure terminal.
Sources have told Sun Online that the government has decided to obtain a loan worth $600 million.
Earlier, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) also said that discussions are under way to remove Aqua Restaurant, to extend the terminal to include this area.
Adheeb further said that an agreement will be signed soon to appoint Singapore’s Changi Airports as the Consultant for the development of INIA.
