President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has today proposed former Maavashu MP Abdul Azeez Jamaal Aboobakuru for the post of Information Commissioner, for approval by the Parliament.
President's Office said that the other 13 applications which met the required criteria were also forwarded for the reference of the Parliament. Parliament is required to approve or reject the nomination within 30 days.
The Right to Information Act ratified on 12 January requires the parliament to approve and the President to appoint for a term of 5 year, an Information Commission who will head the Information Commissioner’s Office, the primary independent body charged with the enforcement of the Right to Information Act.
