Home Minister will be produced to court tomorrow: Police Commissioner

Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed has said that Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer will be produced to court tomorrow, in line with the Criminal Court order upon Maldives Police Service.

Waheed told Sun Online today that the police will obey and implement court orders.

Criminal Court ordered the police on 12 June to arrest and produce Umar Naseer to court.

Two hearings have been cancelled due to the defendant's failure to attend court. Umar Naseer has informed the court that he will not be able to attend hearings before 16 June.

Thamzeel Abdul Samad, Media Coordinator at Ministry of Home Affairs said on Tuesday that Umar Naseer was in The Netherlands to secure a sniffer dog squad for the Maldives Police Service.

The Home Minister is due to return to Maldives tonight.

Umar Naseer is charged by the State with disobeying orders, after he called for volunteers to follow his instructions and use fifty 12-foot ladders to storm the walls of the country’s military headquarters during a protest in Male', prior to the controversial change of power on 7 February 2012.
