Parliament calls for applications for LGA Board membership by civil society members

The Parliament Secretariat has called for applications for the membership of the Local Government Authority (LGA) Board, the governing body for councils, by civil society members.

Article 62 of the Decentralisation Act states that the LGA Board should have two members appointed by the parliament – a civil society member, and a member of the public.

The parliament said in its announcement today that the deadline for submitting applications is 1:30 p.m. on 29 June.

The announcement also details the requirements for LGA Board members.

The Board of LGA is made up of nine members. They are a minister appointed by the President, a member appointed from Male’ City Council, four members elected from Atoll Councils, a civil society member appointed by the Parliament, a member from the public appointed by the Parliament, and a member elected from City Councils.
