Hondaidhoo suspect Jadulla sentenced to 12 months in prison

Criminal Court has sentenced the General Manager of Alidhoo Resort, Jadulla Jameel to 12 months in prison for refusing to provide urine samples to the authorities over his arrest from Haa Dhaalu Hondaidhoo.

Denying the charges, Jadulla argued that the police had not followed procedure in asking for a urine sample. However, the court said today that there were no witnesses to support his claim and ruled that police had followed due procedure in seeking the sample.

Jadulla Jameel, who has also been charged with possession of alcohol, was arrested along with two MPs and a few others from Haa Dhaalu Hondaidhoo, an uninhabited island in the northern part of Maldives, on 15 November 2012.
