MDP congress postponed

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has delayed its congress scheduled for Friday and Saturday over a lack of venue to hold the meeting.

“A date for the congress will be decided and announced to the public,” said MDP in a statement today.

MDP members in the party's last congress on 1 April decided they will finalize changes to the party’s regulation during the next congress, which was scheduled for Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th of June.

Speaking to Sun Online today, chair of MDP’s election committee Ibrahim Waheed said the congress will be held when the viability of Dharubaaruge convention centre is confirmed.

MDP recently invited application for the party’s president and vice president posts. Former president Mohamed Nasheed - currently the party’s interim president after Reeko Moosa Manik stepped down as chairperson on 1 April - has announced that he will stand for MDP’s president post.
