Equipment required by hospitals will be supplied within 1.5 years: Health Ministry

Ministry of Health and Gender has announced that the equipment required by hospitals across the country will be supplied over the next one and a half years.

Speaking at a press conference at President’s Office today, Minister of State for Health and Gender Hussain Rasheed said that numerous efforts are under way to improve hospitals.

“We have already made announcements regarding procurement of items for three hospitals. Announcements will continue to be made for three hospitals at a time, until items are completed for all hospitals,” Rasheed said.

He said that the new framework for doctors which came into effect this month would facilitate great progress for the health sector.

Rasheed referred to the government’s efforts to employ 200 new doctors, and said that 17 doctors have already been employed and documents of 40 others are being processed.

He said that the health sector was heavily indebted and generally in poor shape when the new government took over, and assured that relentless efforts are ongoing to improve the situation.
