Vice President Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has inaugurated the government’s sea ambulance service. The service was officially launched during a ceremony at the official jetty in Male’ this morning.
The service has been introduced to Dhaalu and Raa atolls and will be expanded to cover all areas of the country by end of the year, said the Ministry of Health and Gender.
Speaking at the inauguration event, Vice President Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed said 26 sea ambulance speedboats will be introduced to the service within the year.
Health Minister Dr Mariyam Shakeela said the service will increase accessibility and serve to transfer patients to doctors and doctors to patients.
“These ambulances will have the equipment to treat patients. Ambulance crew will also be trained in first aid,” Dr Mariyam Shakeela said, speaking at the event.
Ministry of Health and Gender will provide the sea ambulance service in conjunction with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
