Government will not suffer from JP

The government will not suffer from Jumhoory Party’s (JP) departure from the ruling coalition, and the government will continue to provide services to the people, Vice President Dr Mohamed Jameel has said.

Vice President made the remarks while speaking to the media after the inauguration of government’s sea ambulance service, at the official jetty in Male' this morning.

“A lot will unfold within the next week or so,” said Dr Jameel, when asked if the government will dismiss cabinet ministers holding JP slots. The Vice President did not elaborate.

He further noted that the new parliament is in favour of the government and said that the government now has the power to provide the necessary services to its people.

President Yameen on Wednesday asked Transport Minister Ameen Ibrahim to ‘stay at home’ until further notice. Ameen’s suspension follows the dissolution of the coalition agreement between Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and JP, after JP nominated the party’s leader Gasim Ibrahim as the Speaker of the Parliament against PPM's wishes.
