Continuous heavy rain since midnight until morning today has flooded the streets of the capital Male'. Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) said the capital saw 57 millimeters of rain between 12:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.
A number of major areas in Male’, including areas around Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and a large portion of Ameenee Magu, have water rising up to a foot or more.
Office-goers and school children in Male' were seen walking gingerly with their boots in hand to avoid the murky water this morning. Male’ and central Maldives will continue to experience heavy rain and winds up to 18 miles per hour for the next 24 hours, according to Met Office.
