Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has said that no discussions regarding financial aid took place with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission in Maldives.
The purpose of IMF’s visit is to study the economic situation of the Maldives, and no discussions relating to granting of financial aid or a standby facility are planned.
Finance Minister Abdulla Jihad told Sun Online today that no discussions took place pertaining to any IMF intention to take steps against Maldives.
“The discussions were about the situation in Maldives. Concerns such as reducing expenditure and increasing income were addressed,” Jihad said.
The IMF delegation had met with the Parliament's Financial Committee, Finance Ministry, MMA and President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.
The IMF Mission is made up of Chief Jonathan Dunn, Resident Representative Koshy Mathai, Senior Economist Iyabo Masha, Economist Robert Greg, Economist Kenichiro Kashiwase, and Alternative Executive Director Sami Geadah.
