Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz Hussain has assured support for the national football team on behalf of the judiciary, ahead of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup hosted by Maldives.
The Chief Justice made this remark while talking to reporters at Supreme Court today, after accepting Football Association of Maldives’ (FAM) invitation to for the third-place match of the AFC Cup, as guest of honour.
“It is a great honour for the Maldives to host such a competition. The entire judiciary is with the national team. Right now, the team needs Maldivians’ support, the full cooperation of Maldivians,” Faiz said.
He said that the Maldivian national team has the capacity to win the AFC Cup.
The invitation as guest of honour for the AFC Challenge Cup third-place match was presented to the Chief Justice by President of FAM Ilham Ahmed, while the national team jersey was presented to him by Manager of National Team Ahmed Mahloof at today’s ceremony. Ilham also thanked Faiz on behalf of FAM for his interest and support for football.
The first match, between Maldives and Myanmar, will kick-off on 19 May at Galolhu National Stadium in Male’. The second match by Maldives is scheduled for 21 May against Kyrgyzstan, while the final group-stage match by Maldives will be against Palestine on 23 May.
