Supreme Court establishes Judicial Sector Law Reform Committee

Supreme Court has established a Multi-stakeholder Judicial Sector Law Reform Committee, made up of judges of the Supreme Court and senior officials of some State institutions.

The committee, established yesterday, is made up of Supreme Court judges, Attorney General, Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Finance and Treasury, Prosecutor General, and Commissioner of Police.

Supreme Court said that the purpose of establishing this committee was to improve the justice system to allow it to lead social, political, and economic reforms, and protect democracy in the country.

The court said that the committee will work towards reforms that will strengthen the criminal justice system, civil justice system, family justice system, and juvenile justice system.

The committee’s mandate includes identifying revisions to relevant laws, regulations, procedures, and practice rules. Supreme Court said that the committee will soon begin efforts towards reforming the judiciary and establishing necessary policies.
