Cases of domestic violence reported to the police from January to April 2014 have fallen by 25 percent, compared to the same period last year, Maldives Police Service has said.
Police received a total of 57 cases of domestic violence in the first four months of 2014, compared to 76 cases in the first four months of 2013, a drop by 25 percent.
The most number of domestic violence cases reported in 2014, a total of 21 cases, were in January. February 2014 saw 11 cases and 16 cases were reported in March 2014. April saw a significantly low number of 9 cases this year.
The year 2013 saw 207 domestic violence cases filed with the police, an increase of 15 percent from 2012, which saw 179 cases in total.
