India's Chief of Army Staff arrives in Maldives

Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army General Bikram Singh has arrived in the Maldives on a official visit today.

The Indian army chief was greeted at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) by Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Mohamed, along with the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Rajeev Shahare and senior officers of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

During his two-day visit, General Bikram Singh is scheduled to meet the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Abdulla Yameen. The Indian army chief will also hold meetings with Minister of Defence and National Security Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim and Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam.

Discussions between the top army officers will be focused on continuing and improvising the lost standing cordial relations between the two countries, said MNDF. General Bikram Singh’s current visit to the Maldives is in answer to an invitation extended by Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam.
