Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (Mifco) has participated in the European Seafood Exposition held Brussels, Belgium from 6 to 8 May 2014.
Participation in the exposition will serve to find better prices for Maldivian fish products in international markets and to increase confidence in Maldivian fish, especially in the European markets, Mifco said today.
Managing Director of Mifco Ahmed Bunyameen said participation in the event will further expose Mifco and Maldivian products to the global markets.
Despite the European Union’s recent import tax on Maldivian fish products, the company has confidence that demand for Maldivian fish in the European markets will not decrease, Mifco said.
Mifco’s attainment of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Certified Sustainable Seafood certification, along with the Friend of the Sea certification was an important step to breaking into global fisheries markets, the company said.
The company’s continuance in the European market is proof of the quality of fish provided by Maldivian fishermen and the company will continue to improve the quality of its exports, assured the government's fisheries company.
