Man hiding from police arrested for abusing and attacking minor

A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing and using a sharp object to attack a 16-year-old girl.

Police spokesperson said that the 24-year-old suspect had been hiding from police, and several announcements had been made in search of him after two cases involving him were reported last year.

He was arrested in Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadedhdhoo on 1 May following information received from members of the public, said the police.

Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo Magistrate Court gave the suspect detention of 15 days last Friday.

The case is under investigation by Thinadhoo Police Station.
