The people of Gaafu Alifu Gemanafushi have been left without power after a generator in the island’s Power Station failed.
Gemanafushi Council President Abdulla Shiyan told Sun Online that electricity went off in the island at around 4:30 p.m. today.
He said that the part of the 144 kW generator that caused the problem has been sent to Vilingili for repair.
Shiyan said that in spite of this, electricity is being provided to different parts of the island using a 200 kW generator.
“Electricity is being provided to five areas at different times, that is, for 30 minutes to each area. With the generator being used now, it’s not possible to provide electricity to the whole island,” he explained.
Fenaka Corporation was not available for a comment at the time of press.
