Transfer of Dharubaaruge to ministry was lawful: Deputy Attorney General

Deputy Attorney General Ahmed Usham has said that the transfer of Dharubaaruge from Male’ City Council to Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure was conducted according to the law.

Usham told Sun Online that this was done in line with the regulation on leasing state-owned lands to councils.

He said that the regulation states that the government can reclaim lands from councils if the cabinet passes that the lands are to be used for economic or social purposes.

Following such a decision by the cabinet, a court order is not required for the government to reclaim lands, said Usham.

He further said that City Council failed to respond after being notified repeatedly to hand over Dharubaaruge to the ministry, after this was decided by the cabinet.

Dharubaaruge, the main event hall in Male’, was transferred to Housing Ministry with the assistance of the police this afternoon.

Male’ City Deputy Mayor Shifa Mohamed has said that Dharubaaruge was transferred to the ministry unlawfully, and a case will be filed to court.
