Dr Faathin Hameed passes away

Chairman of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (Mifco) Dr Faathin Hameed has passed away today in Bangalore, India.

MP Hamdhoon Hameed, Faathin's brother told Sun Online that Faathin passed away at 12:45 p.m. today, after a one and a half year battle with cancer. The family is making arrangements to transport the remains to Maldives. Faathin’s husband Nasrulla Kamaaluddeen is currently in Bangalore.

Faathin Hameed attended a PhD in Fisheries Management at the University of Waikato, New Zealand and has made numerous contributions to the Maldives fisheries sector. She is niece to President Abdulla Yameen and former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

Faathin Hameed is survived by her husband and two daughters, ages three and six.
