A fishing vessel has been seriously damaged after it ran aground on the reef near Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaram.
Nolhivaram Council said that efforts are ongoing by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and crew members to refloat the vessel.
Media Coordinator of Nolhivaram Council Abdul Raheem Hussain told Sun Online that efforts are also ongoing to save the items on-board.
“The vessel ran aground at around 6:00 a.m. There was fish on-board at the time of the incident, and the fish boxes are now being carried to the island. It ran aground while trying to enter the harbour to pick up a crew member from Nolhivaram. The vessel belongs to Fresh company in Male’ and has suffered serious damage,” said Abdul Raheem.
He also said that difficulties are being faced in setting the vessel afloat again due to low tide.
