Hulhumale

A speedboat and a Hulhumale’ ferry boat collided at sea on Friday night.

No one was injured in the accident. A passenger onboard the Hulhumale’ ferry told Sun that the accident occurred around 8:45 p.m. when the boat was hit by a speedboat “Kandoomaa Purple”, which was returning after delivering tourists to Ibrahim Nasir International Airport.

“Side windows on the speedboat were completely shattered. It was heavily damaged. An iron shaft at the front of the ferryboat also broke. The ferry’s bow smashed into the side of the speedboat,” the passenger told Sun.

The ferry was carrying a number of passengers while the speedboat was empty, except for the three crewmen.

“The ferry was on its way to Hulhumale’ when the accident happened. But everyone was brought back to Male’ after accident,” the passenger said.
