Maldives Polytechnic has offered vocational training to 74 students, under a new policy set by Education Ministry to encourage vocational training during school years.
Lecturer at Maldives Polytechnic Nasih Jamal said that 74 students from five schools in Male’ had enrolled for five vocational training courses offered by the Polytechnic.
Nasih said that the duration of each of these courses is one year and six months, and the students will complete an internship program after the course.
He said that students who complete these courses will receive an O’Level standard, Level 3 Certificate accepted by Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA).
“They will attend the Polytechnic only on Tuesdays. Every other day of the week they will attend classes in their normal schools. They will be studying the four compulsory subjects – Islam, Dhivehi, English and Maths – in their schools,” said Nasih.
The courses offered by the Polytechnic are Certificate 3 in Engine Repair and Maintenance, Certificate 3 in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Certificate 3 in Furniture and Woodcarving, Certificate 3 in Electrician course, and Certificate 3 in Machining and Welding.
