More than 12,000 housing application forms issued

Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has said that more than 12,000 people have obtained application forms for housing units, under the government’s new housing project.

This was announced by Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muizzu at a press conference today.

“The government has initiated a large-scale housing project. Our hope and aim is to provide housing to residents of Male’ who live in poor housing conditions. More than 12,000 application forms have been issued by today,” said Dr Muizzu.

He said that 12,000 is the number of paper forms issued from the ministry, and the number of forms downloaded from their website is not known.

Dr Muizzu said that the ministry has not yet started accepting forms.

“…We have noted that the 1,100 flats we have decided to build under this project would not be enough. We will now work on finding ways to build flats in addition to these 1,100. Discussions are already ongoing with a foreign party, regarding the construction of 600 additional flats,” he said.

Dr Muizzu said that all preparations have been completed for the construction of 400 out of the 1,100 flats, which will be funded by a loan from the government of India.
