Ungoofaaru Council President exiled for 11 years

Criminal Court has sentenced President of Ungoofaaru Council Abdul Nasir to exile for 11 years, after the court found him guilty of misusing the funds of the island’s power station.

The ruling states that Abdul Nasir had confessed in court that he accepted MVR 114,325 paid by Ungoofaaru Power Station to the Island Office by signing the daily incomes record on 21 June 2005, and used these funds for personal purposes.

Ali Nasir was also ordered to repay the money to Ungoofaaru Council Office via Civil Court within one month.
