Nomination for High Commissioner to Pakistan sent to committee

Parliament had today forwarded for committee review, the name of former Chief of Defence Force Major General (Rtd) Moosa Ali Jaleel, nominated by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom as the Maldives High Commissioner to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

President made the nomination to parliament on 3 April. Major General (Rtd) Moosa Ali Jaleel's name is being considered by the National Security Committee of the Parliament.

Major General (Rtd) Moosa Ali Jaleel is credited with having played a pivotal role against the mercenaries who invaded Maldives on 3 November 1988. He was appointed Chief of Defence Force in November 2008, retired in February 2012, and has recently joined the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
