President Yameen Abdul Gayoom has inaugurated a project to construct 3,000 housing units in Hulhumale’, to be carried out by SeaLife Global Inc.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony in Hulhumale’ this evening, President Yameen said that similar projects will be prioritised to solve the problem of housing faced by many Maldivians.
He assured that the government would make special efforts to provide housing to youth, under the project to make Hulhumale’ a ‘Youth Village’.
Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said that the 10 and 12 storey housing unit buildings, targeted at mid to high income families, will be completed within five years.
The buildings will consist of one bedroom, two bedroom, three bedroom and four bedroom apartments.
SeaLife has also been commissioned to build a modern, 12-storey office building with 1,500-people capacity in the same area in Hulhumale’.
