Five ballot boxes recounted

Elections Commission has last night recounted five ballot boxes following candidates’ complaints.

Officials found inconsistencies in the votes received by candidates in four of the boxes. The remaining box, placed in Maamigili, was recounted after the commission did not receive the final results sheet. However, the recounts did not show enough irregularities to change the preliminary results.

The ballots recounted were; ballots cast by Mathiveri voters to box 1 placed in Kaafu Hinmafushi, ballots cast by Vilufushi voters to the box placed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ballots cast by Fonadhoo voters to the box placed in Hoadhadu, Fuvahmulah, ballots cast by Fares-Maathoda voters to the box placed in Fuhaalhohi Resort and ballots cast by Vilufushi voters to the box in Alif Dhaalu Maamigili.

Elections Officials recounted the ballots and sealed the envelops in the presence of candidate representatives and the media.
